Protect your bike from theft!

Registering your bike on MyBike

It is estimated that as many as 11 bikes a day are stolen in Antwerp. That's why we like to share a tip that will help you protect your bike a little more from theft.

Of course, you cannot really completely prevent your bicycle from being stolen, but you can significantly reduce the chances of this happening by registering your bike. A bike with a registration sticker is no longer as attractive to a thief, since the owner can easily be looked up. But perhaps more importantly, a registered bike is also much more likely to find its way back to its owner when it does get stolen.

How do you do that?

Getting your bike registered was always possible at a Bike Point until now.

From now on, this system will change. From now on, you can easily order stickers via mybike.belgium.be. This is a new online platform where you can register your bike yourself. After registration, you will receive your sticker by mail. On these new stickers, your national number is no longer mentioned, which is much safer for your privacy. Instead, there is a QR code on the stickers, which police and city services can scan to easily locate the owner of a bicycle.

Also, if you want to buy a bike yourself that has a sticker on it, you can check the registration number on the sticker through MyBike. You can then see if the bike is reported stolen. Only the police can see the name of the owner, but you can send an anonymous message through the platform.

This way, many stolen bikes find their way back to their owners!

Does your bike change hands?

Of course, this doesn't mean you can't sell your bike or pass it on to someone else. On the MyBike website you can easily change the name of the owner. You don't even have to order or stick a new sticker for this.
